About Qinfolk

We are black AND brown AND trans AND queer AND ...
Qinfolk is a space for us. The folx at the intersections.
We are from/in the woods, the suburbs, the beaches, the islands,
the cities, the farms, the coastlines, the deserts, the jungles, the water.
Qinfolk is we/they/them/us.
Qinfolk is community.

MISSION

Qinfolk is a film, arts and mental health festival dedicated to the celebration of queer and trans people of color. We’re here to center and exalt the creative expression of our community and cultivate safe spaces of representation and healing.

Community Guidelines
& Expectations

By attending the Qinfolk Festival, you acknowledge the following:

1. CENTERING QUEER AND TRANS PEOPLE OF COLOR
First and foremost, Qinfolk is a space for QUEER AND TRANS PEOPLE OF COLOR. QTPOC, QTBIPOC, ...

As such, some events are for queer and trans people of color ONLY. These activities are clearly marked on our schedule of events.

We ask allies participating in the festival to be mindful of the space they take up and prioritize the voices and needs of QTPOC. Read more about the need for POC ONLY spaces here.

2. ASK MY PRONOUNS
As you meet folx throughout the day, ask their pronouns and call them by their pronouns. So simple, so easy.

3. RESPECT AND CONSENT
There is no space for judgement or spectacle at Qinfolk. Do not take photos, or make physical contact of any kind (including hugs) without permission. If a boundary is
expressed to you, honor it immediately.

4. BE KIND
Qinfolk is about family and building community. Introduce yourselves to each other, check in on one another and be kind to each other and yourself.

5. BE PRESENT AND PARTICIPATE
As you move through festival spaces we challenge you to disconnect from you mobile device to engage fully with yourself, each other, the art and experiences of the day.

6. BE MINDFUL OF SPACE
Some spaces at Qinfolk are decompression spaces, designed for folx to: breathe, relax, rest, reflect and collect themselves. Within decompression spaces allow people to sit alone,
and be by themselves. Additionally, respect all spaces and leave them better than you found them.

7. BE CURIOUS
All Qinfolk activities are located on or near the Downtown Ithaca (pedestrian) Commons. Explore the area, check out the waterfalls, meditate in a park, go for a hike.

Explore yourself, be aware of your comfort level. If you feel a shift in your mood, energy, ask why and tune in to what you need to feel re-balanced.

8. DO THE WORK
Do not ask for the emotional or intellectual labor of anyone other than a workshop facilitator, within the workshop, within the context of the workshop topic.
Otherwise, there are 20+ libraries in Ithaca and of course the internet. Do the work to educate yourself.

9. NAH, NO, NONE AT ALL, KEEP IT.
